House inspiration

Modern Shabby Chic is my latest crush and my house inspiration. I mentioned several times that together with my husband we're planning to extend the house. We're not even close to doing that yet, but I truly believe it will happen soon. I'm trying to find some inspirations  or rather dreaming about  my future house. There are so many different types of furniture now, that you can really get crazy. I always liked modern style, but deep down I've always been a fan of older pieces. I love the way you can combine them together achieving shabby chic. So what is shabby chic? I found a perfect description of that style on wikipedia: "Shabby Chic is a form of interior design where furniture and furnishings  are either chosen for their appearance of age and signs of wear and tear or where new items are distressed to achieve the appearance of an antique. At the same time a soft opulent yet cottage-style decor often with an affected feel is emphasized to differentiate it from genuine period decor"
Modern shabby chic, this is how I call them, are subtle yet in crisp colours, clean lines, decorated with distressed pieces of furniture that give to each room a character. Although they are so different, they live in perfect harmony. Both pretty and comfy, they make the house look warm and lived in. Here are my inspirations:

What are your inspirations?

  4. Ooh - I love shabby chic! I love second hand furniture! You paint/recover it however you want and it you'll love it forever! Plus if it's already a bit worn, when life inevitably intervenes (especially if you have kids and or pets) it won't matter if it gets a bit roughed up ;-)

    1. I love it too, but I think this is not the easiest style to pull it out. You can easily go wrong, but if you get it right then your house will have so much character.

    1. Hey Mish,

Thx for a nice comment. I'm slowly adding pictures from my house. I'm doing a little "lifting" to the current house and once it will be extended I will be adding more pictures:-) At the moment you can see some pictures from my bedroom in post how to paint a rug.
